About Me

Are you visiting this page because you're planning to do a training ride? If yes, three cheers for you! In 2004, training rides transformed me from a newbie (scared-to-death, Can-I-possibly-do-this? How-the-heck-do-I-change-gears-and-clip-out? OMG-look-at-that-hill! Oh-sh__-here-comes-a-car) to - dare I say - a confident rider who relishes every mile of the ride in June.

It's true, I'm living proof that you don't have to be a seasoned cyclist (or even an athlete, or even young) to do AIDS/LifeCycle and love it. Training rides allow you to take it a step at a time, get stronger week by week, and be absolutely ready in June. Whether it's a commitment to ending AIDS or the lure of the challenge that brought you here, you are in the right place.

A word to those about to do a training ride: two things we take extremely seriously - safety and taking care of each other. We ask that you join us in that commitment. And you will have fun!

Oh yes, about me. I'm a 62-year-old grandmother, proud wife of Dan the Water Man (roadie), proud mother of Kathy (she got me hooked on this event - hooray for her) and Frank (roadie in 2005, maybe new rider in 2008?)

Come out and ride with us - Orinda BART Saturday morning. Don't forget to RSVP - See you there!

Why I Participate in AIDS/LifeCycle

Four years ago I was a Reluctant Roadie-to-be. I quickly became addicted to The Ride and The People Who Do It - the most spectacular week of my year - and by far the most heartwarming and fun people on the planet.

My commitment to the cause has grown from there... getting to know so many amazing people who live with HIV... and so many who have lost those they love... learning about the hugely important work that SFAF and LAGLC do... realizing how far we have to go to eradicate a disease cruel enough to make orphans of so many kids worldwide. I participate because I can - and because I can't not do it.
